Financial Services Mobile App

Problem

Managing personal finances in Nigeria often means juggling multiple apps, one for bill payments, another for bank transfers, and yet another for subscriptions or mobile recharge. Users feel overwhelmed by fragmented experiences, lack of transparency in scheduled payments, and inconsistent design patterns across services.
The challenge was clear: create a unified, intuitive platform that simplifies everyday financial tasks while maintaining trust and clarity.

Solution

I designed a mobile application that consolidates core financial services into one seamless experience. The app allows users to:
  • Manage digital cards with clear visibility of balances and transactions.
  • Pay bills (electricity, water, internet) through a straightforward flow with minimal friction.
  • Transfer money to banks quickly, with search and selection optimized for local institutions.
  • Recharge mobile airtime with preset amounts for speed and flexibility.
  • Schedule subscription payments for services like Netflix, Prime Video, and Spotify, reducing the risk of missed renewals.
The design emphasizes visual hierarchy, typography clarity, and consistent components across flows. Each screen was built in Figma, with reusable design tokens for colour, spacing, and typography to ensure scalability.

Design Process

  • Research & Insights: Conducted interviews with users frustrated by juggling multiple apps. Key pain points included hidden fees, confusing navigation, and lack of reminders for subscriptions.
  • Wireframing & Prototyping: Created low-fidelity flows to validate task completion speed. Iterated based on feedback before moving to high-fidelity designs.
  • Visual Design: Applied a clean, modern aesthetic with bold typography and a colour palette that balances trust (deep blues) with energy (bright accents).
  • Usability Testing: Ran sessions with 10 participants. Success rates improved by 40% compared to their current apps, especially in bill payment and subscription scheduling.

Impact

  • Reduced task completion time for bill payments by 30%.
  • Increased user confidence in managing subscriptions with clear upcoming payment reminders.
  • Delivered a cohesive design system that can scale to future services like loans and insurance.

Reflection

This project taught me the importance of designing for local context, integrating Nigerian banks, mobile networks, and subscription services users actually rely on. It also reinforced the value of consistency: when flows look and feel familiar, users trust the system more.
